EQUINE ASSISTED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
EQUINE ASSISTED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
EQUINE ASSISTED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
At HORSES AND HUMANS, we believe that there is something very special about the relationship between a Horse and a Human that can be fundamental to helping a human find happiness, wellbeing and improve cognitive and emotional development.
So why horses and not other animals?
HORSES ARE SURVIVORS, ACTION PACKED VIGILANT, SENSITIVE, FLIGHT AND FIGHT RESPONDERS
. HORSES ARE SOCIAL ANIMALS, AND HAVE DEFINED AND SHIFTING ROLES WITHIN THE HERD DYNAMIC
. HORSES HAVE DISTINCT PERSONALITIES, ATTITUDES, EMOTIONAL RESPONSES AND BEHAVIOURS
. HORSES CAN BE STUBBORN AND DEFIANT OR PLAYFUL AND COOPERATIVE
. HORSES ARE LARGE, FAST AND POWERFUL AND CAN INSPIRE RESPECT OR EVEN FEAR
. HORSES LIKE TO PLAY, ARE CURIOUS AND VERY, VERY OBSERVANT
THEY ARE VERY MUCH LIKE US IN SO MANY WAYS
HOW, WHAT AND WHY?
HOW DOES INTERACTING WITH A HORSE HELP WHAT IS EQUINE ASSISTED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
WHY HORSES?
HORSES AND HUMANS believe that developing a connection with a horse and using its extraordinary senses to give us insight and reflect or mirror our responses that help us find solutions that may facilitate change – Breaking through barriers to acheiving:
Confidence, Self Esteem, Positive Attitude, Resilience and finding A Way Forward
Equine assisted therapy has been shown to increase self-esteem, improve self-efficacy and lower anxiety
EQUINE ASSISTED PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT therapies are recognised and well documented with evidence-based research as a powerful adjunct for mental health therapy that can incorporate and be delivered in a range of accepted psychological proven modalities.
The Globally recognised Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Model (EAGALA) is one of these.
In it, the primary focus is around the responses the horse offers by its behavour and how this interaction with the person is perceived by the individual.
It gives the person the opportunity to experience and explore a wide range of emotions and feelings in an unconditional and non-judgemental way.
As they interact, the horse responds or reacts providing instant, honest and observable feedback guideing the journey and often bringing powerful insight into group dynamics as well as to the individual and the roles we hold with family, friends and community.
Through EAPD people learn about themselves, about boundaries, and respect for self and others by finding their own solutions and become better equipped and empowered to manage their challenges.
Some of the many stresses and challenges that come our way, are relationships, communication skills, behavioural regulation issues, substance abuse, eating disorders, abuse, depression, anxiety, bullying behaviours, and Post Traumatic Stress Injury.
